A 70-year-old man and a 10-year-old boy were taken to the hospital after an ATV they were riding on slid down a 40-foot embankment and crashed.
Capt. Mike Pfaltzgraff of the Anne Arundel County Fire Department said paramedics responded to the crash, which was a quarter-mile in the woods from the 1000 block of Chesterfield Road, at about 2 p.m.
First responders took approximately 30 minutes to bring the man and the boy up the hill using a technical rope rescue.
"You could probably walk up and down the incline, but you couldn't carry a patient that was immobilized," Pfaltzgraff said. "The incline was too steep."
A Maryland State Police helicopter flew the man to Maryland Shock Trauma in Baltimore with serious but not life-threatening injuries. The boy was taken by ambulance to Anne Arundel Medical Center with minor injuries.
Pfaltzgraff said emergency personnel left the ATV at the scene, and it will be up to the vehicle's owner to decide how they want to get it out.
