US senators warn Iraq over Iran shipments to Syria

BAGHDAD (AP) ? American senators visiting Iraq warned the Baghdad government Wednesday that it risked damaging relations with the U.S. if it is allowing Iran to fly over its airspace to deliver weapons to Syria.

An Iraqi government spokesman responded by saying Iran has told Baghdad the flights to Syria are only delivering humanitarian aid. He said the onus is on the U.S. to offer up proof that Tehran is shipping weapons.

Senator Joe Lieberman, an Independent from Connecticut, said Iraq's failure to stop the flights could threaten the long-term relationship with the U.S. as well as aid Iraq could receive as part of a 2008 strategic pact between the two nations.

"Bottom line, this kind of problem with these Iranian overflights can make it more difficult to proceed with the Strategic Framework Agreement in the manner that the prime minister and we would like to see happen," Lieberman told reporters in Baghdad. "So I hope this is cleared up quickly."

Iran is Syria's closest ally in the Middle East and it has stood by President Bashar Assad as his forces have tried to crush the uprising there for the past 17 months. Activists say at least 23,000 have been killed.

The dispute over the flights was first reported in The New York Times on Wednesday. It said American officials believe Iran resumed shipments of military equipment to Syria via Iraqi airspace in July after a three-month hiatus.

"This region is about to explode," said Senator Lindsey Graham, a Republican from South Carolina who was visiting Iraq with Lieberman and Republican John McCain of Arizona. "They're in a pickle here," Graham said at the same meeting with reporters where Lieberman spoke.

"The reason they're probably not pushing back on Iran is because they don't see how this ends. There's an amazing lack of American leadership, and it's beginning to show on all fronts," Graham added.

The three hawkish senators said the dispute was one example of how U.S. influence is dwindling in Iraq even after it pumped in billions of dollars of aid and fought a nine-year war that ousted the dictatorship of Saddam Hussein and cost nearly 4,500 American lives.

Ali al-Moussawi, media adviser to Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, confirmed that Iranian planes are flying over Iraq to deliver goods to Syria. But he said Tehran has assured al-Maliki that the flights are carrying only food and other humanitarian aid to help victims of Syria's civil war.

Iraqi and American officials say the U.S. believes otherwise. They said U.S. Vice President Joe Biden has promised to send al-Maliki evidence that the flights contain weapons to help Assad's regime ? something that would be a violation of a U.N. Security Council agreement.

"The Iraqi government is carefully monitoring this issue both in the sky and ground," al-Moussawi told The Associated Press. He said Iraq has warned Iran against flying weapons though its airspace.

"The Iranian government has said that it respects our decisions," he insisted. "Until now, there is no evidence of any violation in this regard, and if anyone has any evidence, they should bring it to us and we will take the needed measures," al-Moussawi said.

He said Biden promised to show al-Maliki proof of the weapons shipments about a month ago ? but claimed the Iraqis never received it.

Tommy Vietor, the National Security Council spokesman at the White House, did not immediately respond when asked if Biden promised to give proof of the shipments. He said Tehran "will stop at nothing to support a Syrian regime that is murdering its own people," adding that Iraq, like all other nations, must block Iran from exporting arms.

"Iraq has taken steps in the past to meet that obligation and it must continue to do so," Vietor said in an email. "We expect Iraq, as a member in good standing of the international community and a strategic partner of the United States, to meet its international obligations."

Iraq has insisted it is not taking sides in the uprising. But its Shiite-led government has been trying to foster closer ties with Shiite Iran over the last several years, even as western powers have demanded that Assad step down.

It's not clear how Iraq would stop Iran from using its airspace in flying weapons to Syria. Iraq's air force has only a small number of planes, and no fighter jets to protect its skies or enforce its sovereignty. That mission was previously handled by the U.S. military before American troops withdrew from Iraq last year.

At the Pentagon, two senior military officials said the best way for Iraq to confirm what's on the flights is for the Baghdad government to have the Iranian flights land and to inspect the cargo. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the issue on the record.

Q&A Site Quora Launches Android App

Quora for Android

Quora today took the wraps off its official Android app.

All of the core features of Quora ? home feed, notifications, question and answer, comments ? can now be found on Android smartphones and tablet devices.

"When we set out to build an Android app, we wanted to take advantage of the unique characteristics of the Android platform to extend your experience of Quora in new ways," product manager Sandra Liu Huang said in a blog entry.

Built and designed specifically for the Android platform, the new app follows modern design principles, and includes features like integrated search (with voice activation), top answers on the home screen, and landscape mode.

Since the site earns its keep by providing information, the Quora team provided its new application with a faster, easier way to search. By integrating results into the actual Android device, handset owners can search Quora without opening the app. Within Quora, all roads lead to search access, which can be completed by typing your query, or by asking a question out loud.

One function of the Android app that Quora's iOS option doesn't offer is the chance to add a home screen widget ? drop a customizable Top Answers box onto your phone's home page to keep up with Quora's best content.

Huang also touted landscape mode, which he said provides more spacious views.

"A special shoutout to all the Quora users on Android who have been patiently waiting for this app," Huang said. "This one is for you!"

Formerly, Android users could access Quora via its mobile site. The iPhone and iPod touch app was introduced in December, and has since been updated to version 1.5.

The new Quora Android app joins the Google Play store and Amazon Appstore for Android for a free download. An iOS version of the app is also available in Apple's App Store.

Why Many People Are So Fascinated With Video Games | Creative ...

Millions of people have grown up with video games and we think of it as one of our greatest leisure activities. Interestingly, in many towns, there are more video game retail outlets than there are book stores, and the myriad of games offered nowadays makes sure that people can pick one that suits their gaming style.

How come video games are well-liked?

The incredible pull that these games have largely is a result of the fun that gamers are able to get from them. One more reason why people are extremely enthusiastic about playing video games is that these offer them the opportunity to master a skill. As the players practice and progress, they are rewarded with higher levels. The fascination for video games can also originate from players being given the chance to do something they wouldn?t likely have the ability to do. For example, only some people can experiment with car racing in the real world. Racing video games give them the opportunity to feel that excitement in a controlled setting. The same holds true for first person shooters and role-playing games, where we have the opportunity to try being a member of the military, sorcerers, knights, or heroes.

Changes in the video gaming industry

From the 70s very popular Pong game, which is a simulation of table tennis featuring two-dimensional graphics, to the video games of today where 3D graphics and lifelike gaming physics are de facto standards in game presentation, one can truly say that these video games have experienced tremendous and rapid development since they were first introduced.

These days, gamers can decide to play video games on a variety of platforms. You can install video games on a computer, or use their web-based versions. You can also enjoy them through gaming consoles, as well as their portable variants. Cell phones have also become complex enough to accommodate the demands of of 3D games.

The emergence of the Internet has also made it possible for online cooperative play and also took competitive gaming to a whole new level. Nowadays, massively multiplayer online role playing games are very popular, and gamers from all over the world are playing in them.

In the past decade, we have also seen the increase in subscription-based gaming. For instance, many Xbox games follow a subscription-based model. You need to buy World of Warcraft game time to continue playing. They can be purchased in increments and you can buy them on the internet as well as offline. You can select from a variety of payment options, credit and debit card payments being the most widespread for online transactions. Learn more about where to buy Microsoft points here.

Even though the sales performance of video game hardware, software, and accessories have been declining in the past year, the video game industry still has a significant impact in our lives.

The video game industry has evolved considerably over the past four decades, and the Internet has added not only value to these games, but also increased their appeal and accessibility. For more information on warcraft game time please go to this website.

Like its A-300 predecessor, the streamer can dock a hard disk for content storage, and connects to your network via ethernet or optional WiFi. Other connections include an SD card reader, HDMI 1.4, eSATA and USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 (pending confirmation). On top of giving you access to your own content, the Syabas Apps Market brings YouTube, BBC's iPlayer, and 90 or so other free or premium channels. It'll hit stores in October with a €289 price tag, so if that sounds like your bag of popcorn, see the PR for more info.

Ready to Hire? First Consult an HR Pro

Cindy Henry

When does your business need to address human resources? As soon as you?re ready to hire your first employee, says human resource management consultant Cindy Henry. When that employee comes on board, fundamental employment processes and documents need to be in place. ?You?ll also need employment practices liability insurance and worker?s compensation coverage.

There are a lot of things you don?t have to do when you?re small. But there are also a lot of land mines, says Henry, president of Integrated Resource Network. Don?t rely on your accountant to guide you. ?Employment regulations are too complex for someone other than an expert in HR to advise on them,? she says. In particular, California ? Henry?s home base ??is an expert at dreaming up how many people have to work at a company before something affects them.? For example, says Henry, as of January 2012, if you have 15 employees and one of them donates an organ, you have to provide a paid leave of absence.

Henry recalls one client, a successful restaurateur with more than a dozen employees. ?He knows how to run a restaurant,? she says. ?But he was foolish when it came to his role as an employer of people. When I was recommended to him, he had nothing in place, and the exposure from a legal perspective was huge.? His W-4 forms weren?t completed properly or completely, and he didn?t have any I-9 forms, which document that employees can work in the United States legally.

A big no-no: Don?t lift someone else?s employee handbook. Your handbook needs to be customized based on the number of employees and the type of business.

Henry also warns business owners they categorize workers correctly. ?The laws are very specific on who?s an employee and who?s a contractor,? she says. ?The penalties are severe and the tax consequences are ugly.? She explains, ?If I only work for one place, that?s a red flag. If I work in your building on your computers, and if you supervise me, then I?m an employee, not a contractor.?

Next, how to choose an HR advisor.

Ambush Predator: Modern Grandparenting...

"The lives of these defendants have been blighted as a result of the fact that they haven't been able to see their grandchildren," said Mr Lidster.
"They would very much like to have access to them and to have had a relationship with the whole family.
"They realise a lot of bridges would have to be built before any reconciliation.
"What made him snap, he doesn't know. It was a controlled snap. He is horrified and devastated at the result of his actions, from the effect it has had on everyone, particularly the children.
"He bitterly regrets his actions. His remorse is genuine."
What did he do? Cut them off the Christmas card list? Fail to buy them sweeties?

No, no. This is 2012. And it's Grimsby:

Dennis Bloomfield, 53, of Newhaven Terrace, Grimsby, admitted assaulting Graham Blakey, damaging a car belonging to his stepdaughter Shirlianne Kershaw, and having a lump hammer as an offensive weapon on March 26.
His wife, Wendy Bloomfield, 52, admitted assaulting her daughter, Miss Kershaw, and having a pickaxe handle as an offensive weapon.
*sigh*

Afghanistan war: What about the children?

Few Afghans have benefited more from the past 10 years of post-Taliban government than children, but there are still tough problems to solve.?

By Scott Baldauf,?Staff writer / September 3, 2012

They work hard; and despite their country's poverty and political instability, they play hard, too. Few Afghans have benefited more from the past 10 years of post-Taliban government than children, and few stand to lose more if their nation slips back under Taliban rule after US and NATO troops depart in 2014.

Some developments have been overwhelmingly positive, such as wider access to education. A decade after Taliban rule restricted girls' education,?more than half of school-aged girls are in class, says the United Nations.

Other problems have been tougher to solve.

Afghanistan has the world's highest infant mortality rate, according to the UN, and 1 of every 4 children dies before age 5. Half a trillion dollars of military assistance and $57 billion in direct aid seem to have had little impact on the nation's economy. One in 3 Afghans lives on less than $1 a day, the UN says.

Kuweight 64: AFFAIR PROOF YOUR MARRIAGE

The goal of our life is to bring more love and truth into the world. We marry to assist each other in this process -?Leo Tolstoy

Marriage is?a?sacred?union and beautiful?relationship shared?between man and woman. One of the sadest and devastating things that can break up relationships and marriages is extra marital affairs. The possibility of an affair happens due to one or more of these several factors:

* Quite intentional

* Driven by emotions gone unchecked due to mutual attraction

* Constant access and working in close proximity with someone of the opposite sex who understands you, finds you attractive, listens to you, appreciates you or shows a deep interest in you, and get along with you fabulously, which you feel is lacking in your marital life.

* Being in constant company of your spouse's friend, cousin, relative whose company you enjoy, someone you totally admire or in awe of, that turns an otherwise platonic relationship into an affair.

* Inbuilt personality traits for infidelity -?jumping from one affair to another, as they enjoy the secret rendezvous, the adventure and high,? until familiarity and boredom sets in and he or she needs looks for the next 'awesome person'.

* Neglect, spousal abuse or control, depression, where one is lonely and seeks love, affection and companionship.
* Emotional and physical incompatibility between husband and wife.
* Psychological childhood traumas where one was a witness to intense parental discords or messy divorce, where one grows up with emotional issues which is later reflected in one's own marriage and relationship with spouse.

In almost all cases, a spouse can sense if there is an affair. There will always be tell tale signs through behavior and change in one's schedule, personality and grooming. Some feel guilty yet carry on with the affair because they can't seem to 'get out of it'; they cannot imagine life without the presence of the 'other' person in their lives. Some don't feel guilty of an affair, if they are experiencing a failed or abusive marriage or if a person is hardwired for infidelity. In some cases, an affair can get so serious that it culminates in marriage after both parties divorce their respective spouses. In some marriages, the spouse in question has a stressful marriage or finds responsibilities of a family life consuming. As an anti dote, he/she gets entangled in an affair as an escape route. Affairs always happen through mutual attraction and with full knoweldge of what they are getting into. So the statement, 'I don't know how it all happened', is rather lame. The thrill, the adventure and temporary euphoria, it seems to offer, will at some point die out or face an end when the affair is found out or the time arrives to make certain life decisions.

People who are unhappy in their marriage and cannot make it work at all, can always wait until the marriage is nullified and then find a suitable partner to spend his/her life with. This will cause less agony than an affair which is a total breach of trust?that causes inconsolable pain? to the person cheated upon. What can be done to affair proof your marriage?. It's important to do what's right , not what temporarily gives pleasure at the cost of hurting the family. It takes a lot of work, unconditional love, patience, integrity and committment to make the marriage work. Emotions are waves that come and go. Life always introduces us to people we like or admire or have?a fascination for. It could be beause the other person is physically attractive or is?endowed with positive qualities you?connect with and makes a huge impression in your heart. ?It's natural to get drawn to people we vibe well?with like a magnet. Sometimes listening empathetically ?to someone who complains about their spouse instead of dealing with their problems, is looking for a 'way out' which can turn a casual friendship into an affair?.??It's how one handles one's emotions in various circumstances, that's important. What choices you make in situations you face. You always have the power to say no to yourself and aim to solidify your marriage. It's very important to put?the person your married?above everything else. If there is a lot of discord and unhappiness in the marriage, give marriage counselling a chance and see if things can be worked out.

It's vital to express your needs and understand your spouse's needs, be a good friend to your spouse, and not be overbearing or a nag or a control freak that drives him/her away. No one can tolerate verbal or physical abuse?or constant aggression?in a marriage. It's important to treat your partner with respect and kindness. Communicate with one another. Turn towards your partner and not away.?Set?personal boundaries?so you won't get?into an affair in the first place.?Invest in your marriage.?Do things of interest together. Be affectionate and express your love. Stay?away from?online dating sites if you are married. Remind yourself of why you married your spouse and the?promise of love and faithfullness that you once made.?Remind yourself of?all the good qualities? your partner is endowed with and be grateful for the presence of your?better half. ?If you sense something is wrong and it's not your imagination and you are certain, you can always take courage to discuss it with your spouse and even confront the 'other person' before things get out of hand or messy. If you are experiencing a fairly happy marriage, water your garden and make it green and fragrant rather than looking at greener pastures lead by web of desires, which can be quite illusory when the intoxication wears off and reality sets in. Affair proof your marriage by intentionally nurturing your relationship.
